- How much money will I save with a new heater?

Of course this depends on how old your current system is, and which model you choose. We carry a wide range of systems, some which are EnergyStar rated at 95% efficiency! - What's the difference between a "warranty" and a "maintenance plan"?

A warranty is a written guarantee specifying under what terms and conditions and time period the manufacturer will repair or replace defective parts free of charge. A maintenance plan is an agreement with a service contractor, such as KLEBS, to maintain your equipment in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines. Generally, heating equipment warranties require regularly scheduled maintenance checks to maintain the validity of the warranty agreement.

- How often should my furnace filters be changed?

The need to replace or clean filters is a function of many variables such as run time, efficiency, size and type. Typically, low-efficiency disposable and permanent (washable) filters need to be replaced or cleaned every one or two months in peak heating seasons. Electronic air cleaner cells should be serviced at this frequency as well. Check the furnace owner's manual for more details.
- How often should my furnace/boiler be serviced?

After the warranty period, which likely will have specific servicing requirements, it's up to you. Most manufacturers recommend annual inspections (and service as necessary) to help ensure your system is safe and continues to operate efficiently. This is much more important once a boiler or furnace is a few years old, and even more important if the system has an open flue (vertical, chimney-style) rather than a balanced flue (horizontally, through the wall).
- I have forced air heat. How often should I have the ducts cleaned?

A good rule of thumb is at least every five years. However, some of the things that may lead a homeowner to consider more frequent cleaning include:
- Smokers in the household.
- Pets that shed high amounts of hair and dander.
- Water contamination or damage to the home or HVAC system.
- Residents with allergies or asthma who might benefit from a reduction in the amount of indoor air pollutants in the home's HVAC system.
- After home renovations or remodeling.
- Prior to occupancy of a newly built home (construction dust and debris may have collected in the ducts).
- Prior to occupancy of any home (so you don't have to breathe the former occupants' residue).
- How can I keep moisture in the air in my home?

Dry air is abundant in Alaska, which is why KLEBS carries a wide range of humidifiers for any size home, office or business including the Aprilaire automatic humidifier. The Aprilaire works in conjunction with your forced air furnace to introduce humidity through safe, pure water vapor adding moisture to your dry air. Water supplied to the Aprilaire unit flows across the system's evaporator, forcing dry air through the water and causing humidity to be evenly distributed throughout your home. - How can I improve air quality in my home — without investing in new equipment?

Air pollution affects the entire planet. You can't escape it — not even inside your home. In fact, indoor air pollution can be up to five times worse than outdoor air pollution. Much of it is related to products that we use every day. Here are some common household products that pollute domestic air and suggestions on how you can limit contaminants:
- Bleach and other chemical cleansers - Many common cleansers contain environmental pollutants. Try to substitute natural cleansers whenever possible. You can find natural cleaning products at health food stores, or make them yourself out of non-toxic cleaning ingredients such as pine oil, baking soda, vinegar, and lemon juice.
- Cooking hardware - Gas stoves and appliances release fumes into the air. If your home is equipped with gas appliances, make sure that rooms containing those appliances are well ventilated.
- Candles - Many candles release soot and other pollutants into the air. Those made with metal wicks are especially toxic, since they release lead into the air as well. Paraffin itself (a petroleum-based ingredient used to make candles) is known to be a pollutant. If you're concerned about air quality, try natural paraffin-free candles instead.
- Perfumes - They smell like flowers, but they breathe like chemicals - at least the ones that are made with chemicals. Look for perfumes that use only natural ingredients or try creating your own scents from natural oils instead.
- Incense - Smoke is an air pollutant, even when it smells sweet. You can use dried flower potpourri or other natural olfactory enhancers to get the same effect.
- Dry-cleaning - Many professional dry cleaners use a carcinogenic cleaning agent called "perc." Hand-wash your delicate clothing with a gentle, natural cleanser instead. If you must dry clean a piece of clothing, hang it outside to fumigate before you wear it or store it in your closet.
- How can I test the air quality in my home?

After three days, we'll take the results from our "Air Advice Analyzer" and print out an air quality report for you, detailing specific risk factors and air quality trends in your home.
